Payloads refer to instruments, equipment, or systems that are onboard satellites designed to perform specialized functions, such as communication relays or scientific observations. By simulating various impairments and operational scenarios, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing comprehensively evaluates the performance and reliability of satellite payload components (e.g., transponders and antennas) under realistic conditions. Hardware-induced distortions that can be emulated with the ACE9600 include signal compression, intermodulation distortion, AM/PM distortion, phase noise, group delay slope , amplitude slope and passband notching to simulate different countries regulatory spectrum requirements.
